Welcome!!

You do not need to create a "find field".. instead, you use a built-in
search feature in the database... I'll try to explain the steps..

First, you will need to see a layout which has the field you wish to
search.. if you are inexperience with databases, you may only have one
layout which displays every field in the databse.. in which case, you are
ready to go.

in ebase, you see many columns on the right hand side .. look for the gray
buttons (labeled TOOLS), and single click on the second one down which
says "Find"

you will then see the same layout with every field blank.

Find the field that you want to search for all the yes answers.. for ex,
say you have a field for payment, and the answer is either yes (paid) or
no (unpaid). Next to the payment field, select yes from the list or type
in "yes".. depending on the type of field you set up..

The layout will now be empty except for the field in which you just
typed yes... In our example, this will search for all those records
marked as paid (thus, a yes in the payment field).

On the left hand side, you will see a button that says "Find" (or
"Continue").. single click the button to actually perform the search.

Once FileMaker finds all the match, you will only be able to see these
records.. If you want to know how many records matched your search
criteria, look on the left hand side again... near the top, you will see
the details.. Records (for ex 30), which tells you the total number of
records in your database... and Found (for ex 3), which tells you that
only 3 of those 30 matched your criteria (in our case, yes in the payment
field).

make sense?

you can search for multiple fields at the same time as well.. a nice set
of directions for searching effectively in in the user manual (located in
the ebase documentation folder that was downloaded with the ebase
software)... user.pdf is the filename The second section of the manual
will have good details for you.. you may find even just a skim over the
other sections will help you understand how to use the database like an
expert..

hope this helps.. let me know if I confused you...
