Hi
I've asked this question before, and someone asked for more detail.
We have been unable to use the "delete" button on the home layout of
the names.102 file to delete records.
We were originally running with three copies of FM 4, one of them
hosting the files and the other two acting as clients. From a client,
I would press "delete" on the home or data entry layout of names.102.
It's a blue button at the lower right corner of the screen.
Upon pressing delete, the "Delete name" layout appears, and asks for
a reason. I select the reason from the drop down box (for instance,
"duplicate" or "entered by mistake").
I press "Current Record." A dialog box warns me that this is
irreversible and I press "OK."
Now the Home or Data Entry layout reappears, and my record has not
been deleted. Nothing at all has been accomplished, it seems.
If I moved to the computer where FM4 was hosting the files, the
deletion process would look just as above, except that the record
ends up actually deleted.
We have recently upgraded -- we are now hosting the files on FM5
Server, and accessing from two clients running FM5. We are still
unable to delete from the clients. And because there is no user
interface on the FM Server, we have no work around.
We are able to use all other kinds of delete in ebase -- to delete
payments, notes, pledges, etc.
As an experiment, just now I created a found set containing a single
name, then tried to delete it by pressing delete and choosing found
set. It showed me the clock hands. It spent 10 minutes showing the
clock hands before I forcibly quit FM5 at the client. FM Server was
still running just fine. The record was not deleted.
