The analogy I usually use is "Fill Down" in Excel. Enter data in a
field of one record and you can REPLACE the values of the other
records in the found set with this value (or a serial number, or a
calculated value, which is the example you have noted below. It is a
very powerful technique. It's available anywhere from browse mode, if
you have FileMaker and use the master level password. It's a menu
item under the Records menu. Ebase has a script built in to call this
function for those using the runtime.
