The contents of the field Name Line depends on the field Record Type.
If it's Ind (that is, individual) the person's name appears. If it's
anything else (Business, Organization, etc.) the organization
appears. I expect you have records with Record Type Bus or Org, or
blank, and no data in the Business/Organization field. Hence, a blank
in NameLine.

The ebase import process uses the de-duping process to manage
updating records. A record in an external file that will be the
source of an update is presumably a duplicate of one already in the
names file (otherwise there wouldn't be anything to update). Proceed
with your import as if you were going to create new records with the
import. When you get past the first step, importing into the file
import1_.103, you get the opportunity to review duplicates. Click the
button to check for duplicates between your import and the names
file. This should include all the records in your import file. You'll
see a screen that shows both records, the imported one, and the one
in your names file. You can review the data record by record, and
mark each one to update with the radio button Update. Or you can hit
the yellow button to Set All to Update.
Go back to the Import menu and move the records into ebase.
BUT BACK UP YOUR EBASE FILE SET FIRST!

It doesn't show name line for the same reason I mentioned above under
Exporting Mailing Labels. That is, the record type is incorrect.

I just learned something. I never noticed before that the envelopes
don't contain zip4.

That's clever. I occasionally get a question about how to deal with
7-character British-style postal codes, and that's a good solution.

><<Business/Org>>

Business and name are not showing up because of the record type, as I
mentioned above. Zip/Postal Code (the first 5 digits) is all that
appears on the envelope layout. Without FileMaker you can't change
the layout, and you're stuck. You'll have to use labels (which do
contain both parts of the zip code) or export to another application,
like a Word merge document. Has anyone else discovered this problem
and have a workaround?
