Michelle:
We strongly recommend the use of FMServer for installations of ebase
that need to give routinely give access to ebase to more than a
couple people. Further, if you're putting in a wide-area network,
we've found that the best solution is to:
1) Install ebase on a dedicated machine running FMServer
2) Provide user access to ebase by setting up user accounts on a
machine running Terminal Server.
Terminal server optimizes each user's connection to ebase (we get
good response even with dialup connections), and FMServer optimizes
the operation of ebase and allows for automatic backup while ebase is
still in use.
It's not elegant, and it's expensive, but it works reliably. (BTW:
This is one of the reasons we've been looking at what it will take to
create a true open-source, server based version of ebase. It will
make wide-area network installations much easier.)
