I've gotten the Unable to Read Disk if the file opening procedure has 
somehow been interrupted. This typically happens on our webserver. 
Shutting down and restarting Filemaker usually resolves the problem.

You might want to check to make sure that you have enough disk space 
as well. You didn't say which OS you're on, but if you're using 
MacOS9, there's another circumstance that may be causing this.
