Hi Jack,

I was signing on to apologize to *you* when I found this gracious message.
You were absolutely right. I *should* have referred to the archives first.
When I did I found information I needed. My post was a clear case of
immediacy standing in the way of better judgement. In particular, reviewing
list posts, I found yours of 27 Aug 2001, as part of a thread which
treated my question in detail. The following of yours bears repetition:

"The absolute best way to 'fix' the layouts for your organization is to
invest the time and money to learn enough about Filemaker so that you can
safely modify these layouts."

The essence of my problem was that "I was taken by surprise when the layout
mode was not accessible" (Layout was dimmed in the VIEW menu).

But unaccountably Layot was not dimmed when I returned to ebase labels a
second time. It's surprizing how often, when a things doesn't work the
first time, trying again it works. Once I was in Layout, I added the
standard Header (Part) to the label Body, and the Avery #5660 labels I was
using centered perfectly.

I value your posts highly. They are authoritative and clear. The
calculation you wrote for me changing just the year in Post Dates of YTK
1900 & 1901's to 2000 & 2001's worked perfectly the first time I tried it
and saved me editing over a thousand records manually. Thank you!

So please, Jack, post away!

Henry
