The Council is hosting ebase on its local area, Windows 95, peer-to-peer,
TCP/IP network successfully.

I think I am right that from <ebase.org> FAQs it is *necessary* for (at
least?) the ebase host to have a static IP address.

The other (3) PCs on our network were also (necessarily?) set up with
static IP addresses. (One Mac on the network is running DAVE software*,
which requires a static address, providing the PCs and Mac reciprocal file
sharing.)

In order to make cable access available (simultaneously?) to everyone on
the network we bought a Linksys Etherfast, 4-port Cable Routher. Optimum
OnLine, however, provides *dynamic* IP addressex for the WAN side of the
router by default.

Also by default, the router provides dynamic addresses for the computers on
the LAN.

The router has advanced settings that allows you to set up *static*
addresses for "hosts" on your LAN. I tried this static configuration of the
LAN side of the router, but could not obtain simultaneous access to the
Internet from the computers on the network.

I realize that it is probably impossible for anybody to tell me how to make
this work via the list, but perhaps someone would confirm that what I am
trying to do *is* possible.

*Thanks, Matt Scholz, for recommending Dave software for the Mac. It *does*
enable the PCs to share the Zip drive attached to the SCSI port of the Mac.
