We run about 10 windows machines off an NT server running FMP Server, all on
DHCP addresses except the server which issues the DHCP addresses and is the
internal router. From the outside we look like 1 IP address (currently
static) but it doesn't make any difference as we run NAT on a Netopia box
which has our incomming DSL line (until yesterday). Our DSL provider just
went chapter 11 and I see this morning that it is now down so I have to go
back to the modem on our NT server which will have a DHCP assigned address.
We have been there before with no problem. We have also run FMP peer-to-peer
with no static addresses.

Unless you are trying to come into your system from the internet I think
there is no need for any static addresses. Even then there are people that
will provide you Dynamic DNS and they can come in by name, not number. My
daughter provides web pages off her cable modem which has a DHCP address. I
can get to it by name, not number which changes.

I have no experience with MACS so the MAC FMP products may have some
dependence on static addresses. PCs don't.
