Regardless of the field you searched, the result is a list of 
_payments_ that satisfy your search criteria. Your search for the 
summary field (which lives in the names file) while in the payments 
file gives you startling results. Your search was in effect for 
"payments whose related name record had >0 in the last year$ field". 
Note that if an individual had three payments in 2000, $100, $50, and 
$25, the Last Year $ field will show $175 in each of those payment 
records, since each payment record is related to the same name 
record. So your search for >0 in the payments file will find all 
three payment records, not a single name record.

If you do the same search in the names file, you will find only the 
single name record.
