Hi Jane, My understanding is that there are several things in ebase that will trigger the updates for certain records or sets of records. For example, it's the case that when you execute the HOME script or press the HOME button, these fields are updated for the current record. I think there may be other scripts/buttons that execute the HOME script as part of what they do (as a _sub_ script, I suppose?). But, if you want to be sure to keep things updated, use the tool under the ADMIN screen. These find fields are not recalculated when you restart FMPro, ebase, or when you restart the computer. These fields have to do with things like expiration date, etc., and should therefore be updated prior to finding any data that has to do with these dates (e.g. if doing a find for a renewal mailing). One of our primary ebase users regularly updates the find fields from the admin screen. That's a good solution for us. Something similar may work for you, or just update before doing any date-related finds. (ebasers on the list -- please correct me if any of this is wrong) Cheers, Eric -----Original Message----- From: jane sabin-davis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, September 14, 2001 2:56 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: update fast finds Eric: I noticed your advise on techsupport for ebase, referring to your response #2. I was recently trained in Seattle and have asked this question to numerous people without a clear answer. Perhaps I will try phrasing it is a different way to you. The question is: do I have to do update fast finds for certain member data (i.e., renewal date, etc)to be accurate? I get the answer yes you have to do it manually, no it will happen when you re-boot your computer over night. So the rephrase question from a development point of view: if my predecessor didn't use this feature of ebase ever are my files up to date? There is clearly the new info in the files but perhaps it isn't being integrated for finds. Basically as I see it perhaps people who had renewed their memberships might still be getting renewal notices.
