Have you tried moving your ebase data somewhere else temporarily and putting
an original distribution of ebase on the machine? Then play with delete,
etc. If this works then your real ebase data has some obscure bug. If it
doesn't work then you may need to reinstall the operating system on your
machine or even more unlikely get a new machine if it really is some
peculiar hardware error (try new memory chips before going the full new
machine route).

If original works and real doesn't then what you need to depends on how many
changes you have made to ebase. People on the list can walk you through the
next steps if you get this far.
