To partially respond to my own question. Since the field that is used to
store the body text is a "calculated" field it can not contain the
formatting information. (It needs to be a calculated field because of the
merge fields that can be added to the text.)

Hence, I think the only 2 options are either using special characters (if
they exist in Filemaker) or hard-coding the layout.

Ideas?

Subject: [support] Using text attributes in form letter

Hi,
I am trying to create a letter with formatted output in it, e.g., bold a
word here or there.

From: Output, Letter, Create Text from scratch
I type in my message and then use the Filemaker, Format, Style menu option
to bold the word. However, when I go to print the letter it doesn't show up
as being bolded (it doesn't show up as being bolded in preview mode as
well).

Is there a mechanism to do this in browse mode from this script or do I have
to edit one of the layouts, with the hard-coded body of the text?

In more techie speak, I think that translates to: can the formatting
attributes be held in the custom:: final\letter message field. Are there any
special characters to denote bolding or underlining, if it just uses text?
