>Can someone tell me if it's possible, and if it is how, to create a letter >(not an e-mail) with a merge field to household members?
Not easy as you specify, since the relationship to household members is one-to-many. >The idea is that the letter is addressed to the primary member but sent to >all the members of the household. At the bottom of the letter there is a >cc field with the names of the other members. If you just insert the merge fields First Name 1 and Last Name 1 from the relationship Household Members, you'll get only one of the several household members, not all of them. There is a field in the names file (Name Line\Household) that in general contains the names of all the household members. The value of this field in the record of the head of household is the default household name that you enter when you create a household. The default appears on labels as: member1fname lname member2fname lname on separate lines. Note that the character between the lines is not a <CR>, ASCII 13, but ASCII 11, which Filemaker uses to separate values and lines. This means that it will show up on your FileMaker layout on two lines, but if you export it to merge into a Word document it will show up on your merge document as member1fname lnamemember2fname lname This field is also editable, so if in some records you have changed the household label field to be "The Jones Family" or the like, that's what would show up in your merge document. -- -- Dave Shaw H4 Consulting tel: 206-954-7526 fax: 206-625-1338 ------------------ Reminder to each recipient: To change your list account preferences, go to http://email.sparklist.com/scripts/lyris.pl?enter=support and enter the email address you used to subscribe to the ebase support list:: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --------------------------------------------------------------------- ebase - Relationship Management for Nonprofits, http://www.ebase.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------
