Genius! Thanks. It took some working finding all the files which required
the automatic serial number modification; however, once I fixed each file,
the new version is working beatifully.
Thanks Dave, Carl & Walt for your assistance.

Tompkins,
Hmmmmm. I'm surprised Dave's suggestion didn't work. There may be
something else going on here for which an upgrade WON'T help, but in the
event you are set on upgrading BEFORE figuring out the problem, here's a
quick synopsis (should be accurate but I'm not working through this as I
write it so I may be missing a step or so). You don't want to use the
built-in import routine as it isn't designed to handle an upgrade - not
enough fields, can't match field names, etc. Also, you'll need
Filemaker for at least one step before you can use the database:
1. Get a clean copy of ebase.
2. Open it with Master password.
3. Go to the Filemaker menu at top of screen
4. Go to File->Import records
5. In the import dialog, select the names.102 file
6. In the mapping dialog, select matching by field name in the upper
right option
7. Make sure the fields line up with each other and are checked for
importing.
8. Make sure auto-enter is checked.
9. Go ahead with the import.
10. Click Find All.
11. Scroll to the last record in the database and note the record
number.
12. In the new ebase, go into File->Define->Fields (not sure of the
syntax for FMP 5) and select the Record Number field. THIS IS THE STEP
YOU'LL NEED FILEMAKER FOR.
13. Click on the Options button and in the dialog screen for Auto Enter,
enter one or more value higher than the highest record number in your
database in the Serial Number option - this will make sure when ebase
assigns new record numbers it doesn't try to use one already in use.
Also make sure the counter is set to increment by 1.
13. Close out of these dialog boxes.
14. Run the Create Related Records script.
15. Do the same for each of the files in the database, making sure to
look for the equivalent "record" number fields in each of the other
files - e.g. in the Payments file it's called Receipt Number, in Notes
it's Note Number, etc. (not all will have such record numbers, but many
do - they are the auto-entered, serial fields).
That should do it. Have I forgotten anything here folks? No warranties
expressed or implied...
