Title: Re: [support] Re: member Level---
Thanks for your messages about member level.  A few questions....first I need to know exactly how this/these fields function together to figure out how I go about cleaning them up.

I gather that the "level" field (in payments) is calculated based upon what your gift entry is and what the member levels are in the set-up file. I think this is where level calc comes in?  Does level calc take the gift, go out to the set-up file and find the correct entry, and plug that entry in level?

>From the level field, the fast find member level field pulls the data from level field (do I have this correct so far?)

So, if the above is correct, I'm wondering whether the fast find member level field calculates more than one membership together.  Suppose, for example, I have a member who gives 2 memberships (in the same year) with the intent of increasing their membership level from $25 to $100.  Will the fast find set them at the $100 level?  How will Ebase handle this?

And, back to my original problem....because my levels are incredibly screwed up, and because the level field is a calculation, isn't there a way to have it recalculate?  In my view payment screen, I do have a button that updates the level field, but only one record at a time.  Isn't there a way to re-write the script to have the level field recalculate for the entire found set...in my case all the entries in payments?

Also, as for finds, in view payments, I can't enter any criteria in the "level" field...it locks me out!

As for the sort, I'm finding that your solution isn't quite doing it, but I think it is because the data in the fast find member level isn't consistent...sometimes I have "$25-49" sometimes it is "$25.00-49.99", "$25-$49.99"....the permatations continue!  So, seems to me that I need to get it all cleaned up before I look at whether I can set an alternate sort.  Or, in your opinion, do I have a bigger problem (the "tip of the iceberg" problem????)

Thanks for your help with this!!

Yes, you would have to do that if the values in the setup field are
changed. I'm a little confused about what you're asking, though. I
don't see a member level field in the payments file. There is a field
called Level, from which the member level field in the names file is
looked up. If I'm guessing right about what you need to do...

You'd have to put the Level field on a layout somewhere where you
could get at it.
Find the set of records to operate on (presumably all with a single
value of Level).
Put the cursor into that field and change the value to what you want it to be.
Use the FileMaker Replace Command (script of that name, or on the
Records menu) to copy the value from the current record into all the
records in the found set.
Repeat for each value of the Member level you changed.
Then run the Replace All Find Fields to update the Member level in
the Names file.
