You got close. Walt's post describes how to find out what the buttons 
do. The only think I'll add is that on a Mac you double-click the 
button in layout mode to get to the definition (i.e. what it is 
supposed to do).

The script that prints envelopes jumps you to the layout called 
Envelopes - Portrait. It takes you to a layout different from the 
preview screen because most printers want the envelope to be fed 
sidways, and it's tough to preview the layout that way.
