Solicit is a plain text field (Contact:Solicit) in Names, so there's no problem about it being a boolean, etc. So I'm suspecting that there may be other things in the field. You may be able to check by clicking in the solicit field of known problem records and noting if unseen characters appear.
If you perform a find for "Y" and that letter is contained in the field, but it follows another character, it may not be found. Instead, try using [*"Y"] (without the brackets but with the quotes) for the find. The asterisk is a wildcard that will allow for other characters preceding the Y.
