I'm using ebase v 1.0.3. I'm wondering about whether to use the checkboxes in the
affiliation list.

Our old system uses a text field called "Codes". I have imported this field into
ebase as one of the User Fields. We use the field in order to keep track of certain
properties of our constituents. For example, we use "B" for members of our Board of
Directors, "E" for endorsers, "H" for members of Congress, "Q" for Media (magazines,
newspapers), "Z" for libraries, and so on. We have about 30 of these codes. The
codes for a particular record are strung together with spaces, order does not matter

It seems to be a flexible and powerful way of structuring the data. One problem is
that the codes are not user friendly, being arbitrary.

I am tempted to use the Affiliation List Checkboxes, and make an affiliation for
"Congress", "Media", "Library", and so on. However, I remember reading somewhere that
the checkboxes have some sort of disadvantage or deficiency.

Do the checkboxes have a disadvantage? What should I do?

Thank you very much.
