"performed an illegal operation" is one of those cryptic messages the system sends when it doesn't feel well. Good first guess, but apparently not enough. It's possible there is a fault in one of the ebase scripts, and your backup is corrupted also. It would be worth thinking about when this started. Somthing has changed between the time it worked and when it didn't - think about what that might be. Did the machine crash? Have you installed new software? Are you experiencing problems with other programs?
