Hi David, Can't help with #2, but the salutation field can be altered if you don't mind rewriting the calculation. Any time you have a Calculated field in FileMaker, you can modify it to take exceptions by adding a new field and a conditional choice. The ebase Salutation fields are a good example of this.
You will need to create a new Text field (or use one of the predefined User fields). Let's call the new field HHSalutation. Place it somewhere on your household maintenance screen and format it to allow entry. The calculated field you want to modify is called "SALUTATION LINE HOUSEHOLD". The simplest way to modify it is to copy the calculation in its entirety and place it inside a new conditional statement. Highlight and copy the entire field calculation as it currently exists. Then, while it is still highlighted, replace it by inserting an IF function. Then highlight "result one" of the IF function and paste the calculation. Then, complete the new calculation as follows, using the IsEmpty(field) function: If (IsEmpty(HHSalutation), CALC, HHsalutation) ...where CALC represents the entire calculation as it initially existed. If you make any mistakes, just click the Cancel button and start over. When you have finished, the salutation will behave as it did before as long as the new field is empty. But if the field contains a salutation, it will be used instead. Warning - unless you are very comfortable defining calc fields, you should be working on a copy and not your working system. If you didn't understand these directions, you probably shouldn't be making field modifications - get a consultant. Second, remember that any customizations you make now may need to be done again when you upgrade to the next version. Make it easy on yourself by clicking the "Document" button on the Home screen and recording your changes in detail.
