"If your PC FileMaker is version 5, FileMaker will convert the files
from FileMaker 3/4 to version 5 the first time you open ebase with
the new version. You will be repeatedly asked what you want to name
the new and old files. Accept the defaults, which will name the
previous files xxxxx_old.100, and the new ones xxxx.100. Use the
Admin screen to change from single to multi-user, or the other way,
to trick ebase into opening all the files. Once that's done, remove
all the xxxx_old.100 files from the active directory to an archive
somewhere, and you're done."

Thanks Dave -- looks like I should get FileMaker for the PC.

"There should be no problem moving the data and converting on the PC instead
of doing it on the Mac. The amount of work involved is about the same and
depends mostly on how much customization you have done. Doing it on the PC
has the added advantage that FileMaker won't get confused by having multiple
copies of the data around. Take the data over to the PC and start getting it
going. Continue work on the Mac as usual. Then when the PC side looks ready,
bring the data over again."

Thanks Walt -- this suggestion is very helpful. I didn't even consider
running parallel or troubleshooting the PC while staying current on the Mac.
