Julie,

Were you using ebase.exe instead of FileMaker on the old machine to run
ebase? It sounds like your shortcut pointed to ebase.exe (the title bar of
the ebase window would say either ebase.exe or FileMaker, depending on how
you were running the software), and since you also mentioned installing FM5
on the new computer, I wasn't sure which way you wanted to run ebase.

Your shortcut may be failing, though, because of a different path to your
ebase files on the new machine (different arrangement/names of the
folders/subfolders you'd have to navigate through to get to the ebase data
files).

There are two options for creating a new shortcut, specific to the new
computer ...

Try right-click-and-dragging ebase_.102 (or .103 if you're using that
version) out onto your desktop from the ebase data files folder, choosing
the 'create a shortcut here' option when you let go of the mouse button.
This instruction is if you wish to use FileMaker to run your ebase database.
It's possible that your system won't recognize the .102 (or .103) file
extension as belonging to FileMaker, however. If you get a message to the
effect that the system doesn't know what software to use to open the file,
you can probably navigate through the list that's presented and choose FM5
from the list, making sure to keep the box checked that says the software
you chose should always be used to open files of that type.

If you want to use the run-time ebase.exe to run ebase (can't modify ebase
when doing it this way, must use FileMaker to make modifications), then
instead of the above, right-click and drag ebase.exe out onto the desktop
from the ebase data files folder, choosing the 'create a shortcut here'
option when you let go of the mouse button.

Hopefully, double-clicking whichever new shortcut you make will direct
FileMaker to open ebase on the new machine successfully.

Good luck,

Subject: [support] moving ebase to another workstation

Computer idiot here. We are in the process of moving ebase from my
computer, to a different workstation. I went ahead and installed Filemaker
Pro5 on that computer, and copied all of my ebase files from a zip file on
to the hard drive on that computer. I can't figure out how to run ebase on
that computer! When i tried copying the shortcut to the desktop to run the
program, it tells me that there is no ebase.exe file to run the program. Do
I need to download ebase again from the web in order to run the program?

Also...somewhere along the line the program got switched to multi-user. How
do I switch it to single user?
