Steve,

So you are looking for a way to sum up all payments for last year that
are of the type Contributions (but not Event/purchase or Dues)? Are
there any other criteria that need to be considered (for example, in the
US, I believe portions of contributions that go to "501(c)(4)"
activities and/or PACs can't be deducted).

This is possible but would take creating a realtionship filter to key
those specific payments to the Names file so you could create a field to
display them. How is it you want to use this info? Just in the format
of a field to merge into end of year letters? Or do you somehow also
need to "report" this data in totals and summaries? Doing this will
require using Filemaker and some familiarity with Filemaker
relationships and field definitions (as well as layouts if you need to
do reporting). Get back with more specifics and I (or someone else) can
try and do more to help.
