I think I was trying to do two things at the same time when I wrote that email.
I won't bother trying to explain what I meant but I will try and 
answer your questions.

We use iMacs, the cube and an older Mac with OS 9.1 and OS 8.6.  We 
are not using Filemaker Server. There are only 3  of us using it 
sporadically.

What is happening is that we have all the shared folders set up for 
each computer and only my computer (the host) and one other computer 
will open ebase.  It is like one of the computers is not being 
recognized.  I am not sure how to answer your second last question.

We are attempting to open ebase from a shared folder called 'ebase 
stuff' what happens is that it won't let us open it with our 
passwords. It won't let us choose the 'ebasestuff' folder.
