In your example, searching the field for any of those values will 
include XYZ in the found set. I presume you have the field Type 
formatted as a check box, and several of the boxes might be checked. 
Go to find mode, check the box for foundation, and XYZ will show up. 
Do the same for member, and XYZ will be included.

One caution...
FileMaker includes a record in the found set if it includes any of 
the words in the search criteria. So, for example, suppose you have a 
field with values Board Member, Former Board Member, and Member. If 
you search for Member, any record with any of the three possible 
values will be included. The best way around that is to make each 
value a single word, as BoardMember, FormerBoardMember.
