My problem: we have networked ebase between two computers. When I
boot up the program on the host a dialog box comes up that says,
"you are about to become the host of the multi-user file "ebase
100," that resides on a remote volume. This may result in slower
performance for you and any others who try to use this file while
you have it open.

For better performance copy the file to your own hard disk before
opening, or go to the computer where the file is stored on the disk
and open it there."

This comes up on the HOST computer where the file is stored on that
hard drive. What have I done?

It looks to me as if you are look at the problem from the wrong end
of the telescope, which makes it much harder to see what you're
doing. Sounds like you enter your current database, and attempt to
export data into ebase. It works way better the other direction.
Enter ebase with the master level password, go to the admin tab and
admin screen 2. You'll find a button there to import records, which
starts a process to match the data from your source file, present
it
for review, eliminate dupes if you choose, and move the data into
the
various ebase files.

This process is described in detail in the ebase admin manual,
which
I recommend.
