You don't say how you are backing up or whether you are running on the run
time or using FMP. In either case having any *.10x files other than the
active set anywhere on your system can cause data corruption problems.

It is very rare for the ebase program to get corrupted which would require
reinstalling the program. Reinstalling would reinstall the sample data as
well so you probably don't want to do that. Corrupted programs generally
crash rather than behave weird.
