I'd like to know what this should be used for. If someone fails to fulfill their pledge, is the amount unfulfilled entered here in order to "close" the pledge? If not, what's normally done with unfulfilled pledges - just left "open"?
You've got it exactly right. The "writeoff amount" is
used to close a pledge that you do not expect to collect.
