Well, it finally has worked, I think. I had been using the run-time
to import, which I could not get to work. Then I loaded from FM 5.5,
which asked for the dialog extension (not with the correct MacDialog
title) and referred me to the installation.txt file (which did not
exist; there was the installation pdf file which said nothing about
the extensions). But I did finally figure that out, copied the
FileMaker extensions into the Filemaker extension folder, opened
Ebase 2, ran the importer, and all items seem to be in place. Why did
this have to be unclear? And why did the messages all refer to the
wrong file names? I expect because the messages were written for PC
and not revised to match the Mac information.... that's just a guess.
Now I tackle the next complication, trying to export label
information. I have started on that with the same results, unclear
instructions in the User manual not matching the actual results, etc
etc etc. I expect that will eventually work too, no thanks to the
documentation or program info. Please pardon my obvious annoyance,
but I think computer programs should be user-friendly and facilitate
activities, not make them more difficult.

Yes, I should have been more explicit about my setup. I'm using OS X
on a G4 tower with 1 G of memory. I'm running Filemaker 5.5 and was
using 1.2 with 5.5, so the files had been converted to 5.5 format.
There was some information in the digest that I would like to try
before asking further questions, so I will post again if that advice
doesn't solve the problem. There were no error messages. And I did
use the import module, of course. More later!

I have been having trouble getting the proper information to transfer
from the older version to the newer. The name and address information
seems to transfer OK, but the payment information (the important
stuff) doesn't. I don't understand why it isn't possible, with two
programs developed by the same people, to make the upgrade as
seamless as possible and as automatic as possible, especially
considering that I used the fields that were already built into 1.2.
Any help would be appreciated.
