Adding to Dave Shaw's response, another reason to keep deceased members in your database is to ensure that you remain in contact with surviving family members. The largest transfer of wealth this country has ever seen is beginning to take place right now. Don't get left out. When a donor dies is a very good time to talk about bequests and planned gifts with surviving relatives.
To eliminate deceased folks from your mailing list, create a field called Mailing Type (or some such thing), in this field store codes like - "deceased, bad address, no mail, no direct mail, no solicit", whatever you need. Omit records with these codes from your list. -- Rainie Jueschke, CFRE Development Director South Carolina Fair Share P.O.
