Upgrading is already doable with the latest snapshots. See

Upgrading a 1.0.1 to that snanpshot via webgui on embeddeds works fine. 

For new installs I would recommend using 1.2beta1 currently (or the most
recent beta if it's released before you have to roll out the boxes; or
even 1.2 releaseversion if available).
