Hi,

I'd like to use pfsense on an hardware RAID controller with 2 SCSI disks. However, I'm worried about the fact that a HDD might fail and I would never know (unless some tech in the datacenter hears it screaming...). I'm looking for a solution to know if there is a failed drive.

I have thought of a few things:

1- Install NRPE, and monitor using nagios. But a prerequesite is perl. I don't like having too much stuff installed on the firewall. It would have the advantage that I'd be able to monior other metrics.

2- Use a script, using amrstat. But I'd need a direct ssh access and from what I've seen, when I login using ssh, there is a menu before having shell access. Could I create another user that wouldn't have a menu?

3- Write to SNMP?? I don't know how to do that or if it is possible.

Any Idea welcome,

Ugo
