write a script that runs amrstat, compares to known good output, and if not good, sends an SMS to you, or raises an SNMP trap or some kind of notification.
set up the script to run hourly (or daily) via cron. or you can script it in php and make it a web-loadable page which is pulled on a regular basis from some other host.
