1.2-rc1 I found was totally unusable with carp.
1.2-rc2 was OK once running, but it was vital to ensure you knew how to
recover from crash/reboot/loss of config.xml if you were changing carp
1.2-rc3 has been much much better, you still need to be careful

overall, for us CARP is a vital component of pfSense, and it's plenty
good enough; I would expect that 1.2-final-gold-release (whatever) with
its final polishing to be good enough for pretty much anyone except
maybe a bank*!

* that said, I used to work at a bank's ecommerce site... and had
checkpoint crap out on and was told by checkpoint support that I've have
to reinstall (a live system) and managing to fix it myself, I'd rather
have pfSense now!
