Greetings list,

Has anyone used pfSense to redirect traffic away from a server in the event of
its death? For example, a location might have a phone server on-site, but
that's then backed up by a server hosted in a datacentre remotely.

It'd be very useful to be able to have an IP on the pfSense which usually goes
to the local server, but if it's unavailable goes to the remote server.

If that's not possible, then is it possible to "poison" the DNS, so to speak?
i.e. create a DNS entry that responds with the local IP whilst that server's
alive, but that reverts to the offsite server when the local server is offline?

If not possible with pfSense, does anyone know anything else that might achieve
this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Chris
