Dear all,
I am currently using the pfsense v1.2 as the substitute for the office
network. For both WAN and LAN interface, i have setup the CARP failover
and it works great. Thanks to the VIP, user won notice even i reboot the
master firewall. I also assign an VIP and 1:1 NAT for the mail server
which will be access from public.
However problem arise when i try to remove the VIP.
Everytime when i try to remove the unused VIP. The firewall will prompt
something like "The Firewall is rebooting...please wait".
My existing pfsense is install on a PIII 700 MHz machine with serveral
3com NIC.
I also try to install pfsense on a Dell 2950 to see if it is Hardware
related but with no luck. Same message appear and the firewall reboot again.
I try to search in google and dig the pfsense support forum but still
not get the answer. Does anyone experience this before?
It's expected behavior. It tells you before you click apply changes
that it will reboot. If the CARP IPs are deleted from the system while
it's running, it kernel panics, so we have to force a reboot to remove
them until FreeBSD fixes that panic issue. Removing CARP IPs should
rarely be necessary so it's not a major issue, but we will remove that
when the panic is resolved in FreeBSD. It still does that in 7.0 as
well, unfortunately.
