In quick and dirty environments, I've often used that tactic. Typically managed 
switches will show per port statistics. I'll simply unplug the port using up 
all the bandwidth, sit back, and wait for the offending user to complain of 
problems. Why hunt them down when they can come to you? :-)

sometimes simply watching the lights on the hub or switch will give you 
an idea... depending how ruthless you are, you could pull the cable out 
and see if the traffic drops!
