Hello!

How usable is the 2.0 beta version? I'm asking because I'm using 1.2.3
at the moment but there are a few things that are included (like XAuth
for VPN) in the 2.0 version which I would love to use.

It's pretty usable, just don't attempt to use it for a production site. That would be brave(tm).

There is a just a load of small things that need some fixing or touching.

Is it usable enough to be used at home or at places/sites where it is
not critical, if something now and then breaks? I wouldn't want a
firewall that would generate more isssues that it solves (i.e.
constantly breaks down).

There are a number of people already using it in testing because of the specific features. I've been using at home a long time and I've had my fair share of breakage.

From the 2.0 Beta1 onwards though it's been steadily progressing in the right direction. You should consider using the 2.0 snapshots over the official "Beta1" as these already contain a huge amount of fixes over the Beta1.

Another question would be how can I send or submit patches that I
developed with some improvements like a small option for allowing TTL
modification (reset it). How could I submit this as an optional
package to be included into the official packages repository?
Thanks!

Submit the patches to [email protected] and they will end up in the right place. The Diff and Patch utilities are provided with the pfSense distribution.

What I normally do is develop on the box itself. Create a copy of the file I want to work on, make changes to the working file. Then diff -urN file.original file > ~/file.patch

This creates a file.patch in unified format which we can then apply to our trees. You can use scp or the command page to get the patch of the box.

Seth
