I hadnt thought of a possible MTU conflict. This is a new firewall
implementation which includes a move to GBE connectivity however at
this point we are still connected to a 10/100 switch (which may be
swapped out as soon as tomorrow.) First glance at MTU setup on switch
and pfsense seem to both be set at 1500. So a little more info - the
incoming network connection is coming in via fiber and connected to
our edge switch at 1000 - our pfsense WAN interface is a gig interface
connected to a 100 port. I cant easily confirm the MTU config of the
incoming fiber connection.

I did try swapping out the WAN ethernet cable for a new one, and did
connect this new cable directly to our edge switch (rather than via
the patch panels - to try and rule out a cable issue.)
