Was that easy enough? <g> :-)

Sure but how does it SOUND??

Who's the DECIDER in all this?
The STUDIOS (i.e. Sony Pictures decides)?

Or, the HTReceiver guys (i.e. Onkyo decides)?

Maybe the Cable guys (i.e Comcast decides)?

Who did I leave out?

As there seems to be little demand (some demand in the cinema, though...), how about defining a clear and powerful standard, which is flexible?

I sincerely believe that Ambisonics up to 3rd order (maybe 4th order) is the only 3D Audio standard which is ready and applied in software / sound installations.

How you reproduce this is another story, but this doesn't have to be defined in the standard. (You could give some recommendations or define sub-standards, though.)

You don't need Sony or Google to define such a standard. (And I actually got some ironic commentary how a Sony 3D Audio standard might look like, including Atrac and certain DRM recommendations... O:-) Google would introduce some supposed free cloud standard based on free thingies Linux and Java, and mixing up the licenses in a way that Oracle/Sun would be very happy about all this... Just kidding! It usually never happens. :-X )

Best,
Stefan
