Ok, so several movie companies rejected WFS because of ruining the 2D "vibe" of
the movies. But how about now, in 3D? Also, when talking special effects, you
mostly use software, so EigenMic should not even be that necessary.
I've used AmbDec and AMB plugins on third-order (I had 16 speakers) and that
worked great. We all know what Dolby suffers from, and switching to Ambisonics
doesn't even need that much of implementation or adjustment, especially if you
use 10.2 setups in cinemas (I recognize the problem of decoding irregular
shapes, and cinemas are not spherical, but far from irregular). I can't express
my annoyance after watching The Avengers with that "swoosh" sound jumping from
one speaker to another, without real continuity.

As far as spouse convincing goes, my only question is shouldn't this be an
enthusiast's job? For the record, I believe hardcore gamers are that sort of
people, and I know a lot who would give any kind of money for at least a decent
surround (especially now with 3D glasses). And what did they get? A few lousy
racing games. The same applies for others who are willing to use Ambisonics.
