This has, unfortunately, been a problem with Nuendo since the ver earliest
days, when the limitation was 8 (yes, eight!) channels!! I have made the
point about removing this unnecessary limitation to everyone I have ever
known in Steinberg (including Charlie Steinberg himself) but without much
luck. I have never understood the need to hard code channel numbers in DAW
software - it only makes coding marginally simpler (if at all). It does
help a little with the gui but intelligent design can get round that - just
look at Reaper for an example of how to do it properly. The 8 channel limit
on early Nuendo was what led to our FHH panners/decoders which had 3rd
order horizontal components and first order vertical but it was never very
successful and we abandoned the approach after Reaper appeared. Of course,
the situation seems even worse in Protools but.....
