Well, hi every one, just to put in my two bits, if FDISK worked good we
wouldn't need disk manglelar or whatever it is, personally I favor maxtor
hardrives for there simplicity, not there speed. I had a everloc copy
protected program do the disk mangleling on my hard drive, and formatting
didn't fix it. the mbr was corupt what ever that is, I think it is the
drivers .bin that load befor your computer can boot from the drive.
The only I was able to fix it was whith the disk maniger program that
came in the maxblast.zip from maxtor's original on track instal disk. I
must say when I called maxtor the b** TERDS told me it sounded like my hard
drive bit the dust. The tech support person well, persons, I called two or
three times and wrote a few email messages to em, worent even courtious
enough to seem to care about my delema whith there hard drive. this was a
sh*ty thing!!!!!!!!
Especialy my not being able to use the new maxblast bootable disk, you
see, I need to load a screen reader so I can use the software, whith out the
soft ware I can not use it. I wrote to maxtor b** TERD people and didn't
get a reply yet, to this day.
I geus this is sort of twisted in a way, but what I learned is the new
maxblast from microhouse is the manglelar, for it is not compadible whith
the older maxblast diskmaniger from on track, it uses a diferent geometry
file or stats for the newer drives, if you use the new disk maniger on an
older drive that has the older ontrack dik maniger you need to remove the
ontrack version befor installing the microhouse version, or it will mangle
your hard disk drive.
Any ways, I ended up initializing or low level formatting my hard drive
using the old ontrack disk maniger that some one was kind enough to email
me, and I got back 15.9 mb that fdisk and scandisk conveniently maniged to
over look along whithwindows 95 disk utilities.
So, well, what can I say?
Thanks!
Pete
P.S.
The ontrack version of disk maniger works prety good whith a screen reader
you just boot to dos, and type dm/m to run it manually, and it works prety
cool whith lots of options.
