Thankyou, Russell, advice noted for future experimentation. Right now I'm
reluctant to go into radical surgery. Also, the Debian Linux I reinstalled
last night with better success than usual actually has a feature, aliens,
which allows it to import packages from, *gasp* redhat! so, I may go that
route in the end. Dunno, I'm brain dead from all the choosing "gibberish a
or b? default? May not work, use /bin/gibberish to fix it later!" that
I've just been through. I'm a long way from my xfree86 windows!
At least the familiar stuff I'm using now still works.
I was somewhat shocked to realize, which I knew but didn't realize, that I
can use this stuff to further a dream of mine, providing low end mail and
surfing via modem dialup to ppl with survivor pc's of the very slow kind.
It's a long term dream, but I'm close enough to smell it... If I had the
knowledge, I could have it in place in days or weeks, but it's going to
take months to acquire the know-how.
bye,
Yolanda

That's the actual number of the beast, 666 was not the numeral system
currently in use at the time of the writing of Revelations.
