I beg to differ with the above statement. Before I got my softcon linux
machine up and running, I ran my ftp server on a 386-40 w/only 2MB of ram
(and I could have ran it with only 640K if I'd wanted) using ka9q. Not a
single reboot, not a single minute of downtime, and I didn't get a single
complaint about accessability during this time. So, it is possible to run
an ftp/email server (yes, I wasn handling email the same time) on a 386
machine with simple old dos programs.
