Many companies started to make directories using their entire company
name for the directory holding their prorgam as the default.
Very annoying.
And about the "Program files" directory, its for the Joe user who
never seems to handle directory management correctly. So they made
Windows and the softwares to handle most of it automaticly. All your
word processing texts and worksheets or whatever goto "My documents"
(as all of us here OBVIOUSLY only use MS-Office for everything),
and all the programs go to Program files. Now, the idea is intresting
and can be helpful for Joes. Unfortunatly, there is no way to choose
doing it any other way which cause an headache for people like us who
like to handle their disk the way they want to.
Each time I install a program all I can do is hope it will allow me
to pick the place where I want to install it.
For example, this is how I like to manage my files:
C:\U - utilities [DOS]
C:\U\WIND - Win3.x tools
C:\U\W95 - Win95 tools
C:\GAMES - Games.
and so on.
This way I can tell which program do what. Unfortunatly, utils, games,
and alike: its all being pushed into progra~1 in Windows 95, so
when browsing a total Win95 HD, I always need to guess which program
do what.
