I use virus protection on my motherboard...warns if a program
tries to write to the boot partition.

It wont stop viruses from getting in my files, but will do a good job
of stopping them getting on the boot sector...the only concern if
viruses that dont use the boot sector of the hard disk. Oh well. If
you're careful you should be ok, but there's always the chance you'll
get an infected file off the net.

I also back up all my data to ZIP disks which should hopefully be
untouchable by a virus (why would they erase data on a removable disk
D:?)
