I fear you may be in for some in-line assembly.

It's been a long time since I did COMM with
any flavor of BASIC, but there may be another
way:  if your BASIC supports COMM via the
OPEN ... AS ... statement, you may be able
to replace your system-level int 14 port handler
with a custom fossil driver.  There are some
available out there.
