Windows 95 on my laptop did the same thing. It decided I got
3 new extra drives, all 0 bytes in capacity.. I have no idea why.
But it always freeze the system for about 10 seconds when it try
to search for them, and later add them to the drives list anyway.
Re: X-Windows interface, my SuSe Linux 6.0 got KDE installed, and
I really like it. You might want to give it a try.. though it might
be quite slow as well. (it runs in a medium speed on my 350MHz..)
